7 Summary None of the presented approaches to knowledge management have been developed from scratch. Their main origins range from KBS development and information systems design to intranet development and business process reengineering. Depending on their original focus, the mentioned approaches still show their current strengths within these particular areas. However, detailed criteria for the analysis and design are generally missing. Due to their strong link to information system design, all approaches focus almost exclusively on explicit and documented knowledge as unstructured information.
